Currently, competition in AI data centers has moved beyond graphics processing units (GPUs) and is rapidly expanding into the power infrastructure sector.

The core of this collaboration is 800V direct current (DC) distribution technology. Compared to existing AC distribution structures, this technology reduces power conversion stages, thereby lowering power loss and supporting large-scale power supply. Recently, global AI infrastructure companies, including NVIDIA, are driving the transition to 800V DC structures, intensifying competition in related technologies.

LG U+ announced on the 22nd that it will jointly develop and verify next-generation AI data center power infrastructure and DC power solutions with LS Electric. The two companies signed a business agreement the previous day at LS Yongsan Tower in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, with attendees including LG U+ CEO Hong Beom-sik, Corporate Division Head Kwon Yong-hyun, LS Electric Chairman Koo Ja-kyun, and CEO Chae Dae-seok.

With the proliferation of AI agent applications, the growth in inference demand has led to significant fluctuations in instantaneous power usage in data centers with dense GPU servers. Stable power supply and energy efficiency improvement have become core challenges for AI data center operations. LG U+ will provide actual AI data center power data accumulated over 27 years of operational experience to assist in designing power supply systems, while LS Electric will develop power solutions and data analysis and diagnostic technologies tailored to AI data center environments.

The two parties plan to verify the stability and efficiency of 800V DC technology in real-world environments and simultaneously develop power supply solutions suitable for ultra-high-density GPU servers. LS Electric aims to leverage this collaboration as an opportunity to lay the groundwork for the commercialization of DC power technology and expand its AI data center power solution business. LS Electric CEO Chae Dae-seok stated that the company will provide comprehensive power solutions for the entire system, from ultra-high voltage to low voltage, based on technology verified in the North American large-scale data center market.

This collaboration extends LG U+'s core AI data center technology scope from cooling to the power sector. This initiative is part of LG U+'s strategy to secure comprehensive competitiveness in AI data center design, construction, and operation based on the "One LG" ecosystem, combining LG Electronics' liquid cooling solutions, LG Energy Solution's high-performance uninterruptible power supply (UPS) batteries, and LS Electric's power technology. LG U+ Corporate Division Head Kwon Yong-hyun stated that the competitiveness of AI data centers depends on the ability to provide stable and efficient power, and the company will proactively verify next-generation power infrastructure to offer trustworthy AI infrastructure.
