en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 8, Finnish energy technology company Truman Data launched Energy Coop, an artificial intelligence-based virtual power plant platform, and has begun providing services to its first customers in Finland. The platform integrates building electricity loads, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and other adjustable power resources, uses AI to forecast electricity consumption flexibility, and arranges consumption optimization and flexibility trading based on day-ahead and intraday market prices on the Nordic power exchange Nord Pool. Pilot data from 70 municipal buildings published by Truman Data show that optimized electricity operation reduced annual electricity costs by 11.4%.

Energy Coop provides services to real estate asset holders, investment funds, and local governments. Based on the operating data of each building and energy storage device, the platform forecasts the electricity capacity available for adjustment and manages heating, ventilation, electric vehicle charging, and battery charging and discharging loads within the operating constraints set by customers. The system aggregates distributed resources into a unified adjustment portfolio and uses electricity market price data to schedule corresponding operations.

The platform adopts a revenue-sharing model. Truman Data does not purchase or hold customers' energy storage assets, but instead charges an agreed percentage of service fees based on the actual revenue customers obtain. For building owners planning to invest in battery energy storage, the company also offers a BESS-first analysis tool developed with funding support from Business Finland, Finland's national innovation funding agency, which can assess the expected savings and potential trading revenue from the combined operation of building loads and energy storage systems before selecting equipment suppliers and technical solutions.

In the municipal building pilot, Truman Data estimated based on its model that flexibility trading could also generate additional revenue equivalent to 4.2% of annual electricity costs, bringing the combined revenue ratio to approximately 15.7%. Among these, the savings from electricity consumption optimization are pilot operating results, while the flexibility trading revenue is an estimated value. The company further estimates that if 3 to 7 small and medium-sized energy storage systems are connected to the building portfolio, the combined revenue ratio could increase by about another 10 percentage points, exceeding 25% of annual electricity costs.

Energy Coop had previously conducted actual testing in Riihimäki, Finland. Project materials published in August 2025 show that the platform initially connected 14 buildings, used IoT devices to collect data, connected to an AI energy management system through cloud interfaces, and connected demand response resources to the Nordic electricity market. This commercial rollout continues to use the building load aggregation approach while also including battery energy storage within the scope of adjustable assets.
