en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 8, the cumulative electricity transmission of the China-Laos 500 kV interconnection project exceeded 1 billion kWh. As a landmark energy project in the building of the China-Laos community with a shared future and China's first 500 kV cross-border AC interconnection project, this milestone marks the continuous release of the operational efficiency of the China-Laos cross-border green power corridor, and signifies that clean energy interconnection and mutually beneficial cooperation in the Lancang-Mekong region have entered a more pragmatic and orderly new stage of development.

On April 20, 2026, the China-Laos 500 kV interconnection project was officially put into operation. On the day of commissioning, photovoltaic power from a clean energy base in northern Laos was transmitted to Yunnan through this cross-border channel, realizing the first connection of an overseas new energy project to China's electricity market. As cooperation continued to deepen, on August 6, Lao hydropower was transmitted to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area through this project, marking the continuous enhancement of the two-way mutual support capacity between China and Laos in electricity, and bringing the level of optimized cross-regional clean energy allocation to a new height.

The cumulative electricity transmission of the China-Laos 500 kV interconnection project exceeding 1 billion kWh is an important progress in China-Laos pragmatic energy cooperation since the project was put into operation, and is also a vivid manifestation of the two countries jointly building the Green Silk Road. Next, China and Laos will continue to deepen all-round and in-depth cooperation in cross-border electricity, optimize joint grid dispatch, cross-border operation and maintenance, electricity market-oriented trading, and emergency support mechanisms, fully unleash the transmission potential of the cross-border interconnection corridor, steadily expand the scale of green power transmission, broaden the market for clean energy consumption, and create an energy cooperation model for building a closer Lancang-Mekong community with a shared future.
