en.Wedoany.com Reported - Four years after commencing operations, the Quellaveco copper mine in Peru's Moquegua region has produced over 1 million tons of refined copper, recognized as the country's first "born-digital" mine. The mine focuses on producing copper, which is critical for the energy transition, while creating approximately 63,700 direct and indirect jobs, accounting for about 37% of Moquegua's regional GDP, driving regional economic development and opening up new opportunities.

Diego Ortega, Vice President of Corporate Affairs and Sustainable Development at Anglo American, stated that after four years of operation, Quellaveco's safe, innovative, and sustainable mining model has translated into competitiveness, opportunities, and development, benefiting thousands of people in Moquegua and across Peru.
Since starting production in mid-2022, the mine has produced over 1 million tons of refined copper, solidifying Peru's position as a major global copper producer. Copper is increasingly indispensable for electrification and renewable energy. Quellaveco also accounts for approximately 37% of Moquegua's regional GDP, making it one of the main pillars of the regional economy.
As Peru's first digital mine, Quellaveco integrates technology, real-time data, and management systems to achieve higher safety, efficiency, and sustainability. By the end of 2025, the mine had consumed 3.3 million megawatt-hours (MWh) of 100% renewable energy, avoiding approximately 655,000 tons of CO2 equivalent emissions, demonstrating concrete actions by Peru's mining industry to combat climate change.
Beyond mining operations, Quellaveco has supported the development of over 15,000 residents in Moquegua through projects involving education, health, agriculture and livestock production, and vocational training, creating new opportunities for local families.
