en.Wedoany.com Reported - US-based Silicon Sensing has launched the CRG21 digital rate sensor, a fully integrated single-axis digital rate sensor designed for high-impact and strong vibration environments. It directly replaces the previous-generation CRG20 gyroscope, offering a form-fit-function direct replacement.

Silicon Sensing was founded in 1999 as a joint venture between Collins Aerospace and Sumitomo Precision Products. The company developed the CRG21 to meet the demanding inertial sensing requirements of harsh operating environments. The architecture is based on the company's high-volume production capabilities, with its global MEMS sensor shipments recently exceeding 30 million units.

This launch targets spaceborne and defense inertial applications, supported by the company's published space-grade MEMS sensor selection technology framework and the expansion of its North American distribution infrastructure for tactical-grade inertial components.

The CRG21 is a closed-loop digital gyroscope that integrates single-chip electronics into a miniature size to simplify retrofitting and system assembly. Its form factor is a compact package measuring 9.5 mm x 9.0 mm x 3.4 mm, consistent with the mounting dimensions of the CRG20, enabling plug-and-play replacement. The operating temperature is certified from -40°C to +105°C. The sensor features a low-noise design, maintaining angular random walk stability and consistent bias performance across wide temperature gradients. It offers multiple dynamic rate ranges and bandwidth options, and can withstand high structural shock loads and continuous vibration without signal degradation.

Kevin Swain, Director of Sales and Business Development at Silicon Sensing Systems Ltd., stated that the CRG21 builds on the capabilities of the CRG20, which was the gyroscope of choice in several critical aerospace, defense, industrial, and automotive projects. The CRG21 further enhances its shock and vibration resistance.

By maintaining the same pin layout and dimensions as the existing hardware, the CRG21 eliminates the need for non-recurring engineering (NRE) redesign of printed circuit board (PCB) assemblies in existing guidance, orientation, and stabilization systems. The sensor is designed to reduce the total system cost for space, defense, automotive, and industrial platforms requiring compact digital rate sensing.
