Wedoany.com Report-May 31, The Trans-Caspian Cable project, aimed at establishing the first fiber-optic link between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan, has achieved a key milestone with the completion of its Desktop Study. This comprehensive pre-engineering assessment, conducted by project owners AzerTelecom and Kazakhtelecom, evaluates the marine environment and proposed cable route, setting the stage for the submarine installation phase.
The Desktop Study report provides an in-depth analysis of marine charts, seabed conditions, environmental factors, and potential hazards along the 380 km route across the Caspian Sea, connecting Sumgait, Azerbaijan, to Aktau, Kazakhstan. This data will guide the upcoming marine survey and cable route engineering, ensuring the project meets international standards. U.S.-based Pioneer Consulting is providing technical supervision and advisory support, reviewing design elements and offering recommendations to align with global best practices.
The Trans-Caspian Cable will deliver a high-speed, low-latency connection with a capacity of up to 400 terabits per second, enhancing regional connectivity. Construction is on track for completion by the end of 2026, promising to strengthen digital infrastructure between the two nations.
Nurlan Meirmanov, Chief Strategy and External Assets Officer at Kazakhtelecom, stated: “This year, we signed a contract for the construction of the Trans-Caspian fiber-optic cable across the Caspian Sea and reached our first major milestone—the completion of the Desktop Study. The next step is the marine route survey, and I’m pleased to report that all activities are progressing on schedule.”
Dave Marie, Project Manager and Director of Client Solutions at Pioneer Consulting, commented: “Since January 2024, our team has supported the design and procurement of the Trans-Caspian submarine cable system. We are honored to collaborate with AzerTelecom and Kazakhtelecom to deliver this much-needed high-speed and reliable fiber-optic system to the region.”
The project’s progress reflects a commitment to quality and safety, with the Desktop Study confirming the route’s compliance with engineering and environmental standards. By fostering collaboration between AzerTelecom, Kazakhtelecom, and international partners like Pioneer Consulting, the Trans-Caspian Cable is set to enhance regional communication networks, supporting economic growth and digital innovation in Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan.
