Wedoany.com Report-May 27, Kazakhstan Railways has announced a temporary restriction on processing and redirecting cargo and empty wagons destined for export through Kuryk Port’s ferry service, citing the railway network’s exceeded capacity. The measure, outlined in Order No. 1242 issued on May 23, 2025, takes effect from May 26 to June 2, 2025.
The decision follows the accumulation of over 1,000 wagons at the port, surpassing the average daily throughput capacity of 47 wagons. Based on Clause 2, Article 35 of Kazakhstan’s Law on Railway Transport, the restriction aims to stabilize logistical operations. Kazakhstan Railways stated: “These are forced measures aimed at stabilizing the logistical load. All cargo shippers will be notified, and we will ensure compliance with the restrictions.”
Under Clause 2, Article 86 of the same law, responsibility for any failure to meet transportation plans during this period will fall on the party causing the disruption. The temporary ban is designed to manage the overload and restore efficient cargo flow through Kuryk Port, a key export hub for Kazakhstan.
The railway operator is committed to informing all affected cargo shippers to minimize disruptions and ensure compliance with the restrictions. By addressing the current capacity constraints, Kazakhstan Railways seeks to maintain the reliability of its export logistics network, supporting the smooth movement of goods in the region.
This measure reflects Kazakhstan Railways’ efforts to balance operational demands with infrastructure limitations, prioritizing network stability to support the country’s export activities. The temporary restriction underscores the importance of Kuryk Port in facilitating trade and the need for ongoing improvements in railway logistics management.
