en.Wedoany.com Reported - MAN Truck & Bus has commenced series production of its first electric trucks equipped with the Megawatt Charging System (MCS), with the first production vehicle featuring the new fast-charging technology rolling off the line at its Munich plant. MAN is the first European manufacturer to put electric trucks with MCS into series production.
The initial vehicles will be gradually delivered to customers across several European countries.
Compared with the Combined Charging System (CCS) currently widely used in the commercial vehicle sector, the new MCS technology enables significantly higher charging power. MAN electric trucks achieve a maximum charging power of 375 kilowatts via CCS, while reaching up to 750 kilowatts with the megawatt charging system. This substantially reduces charging times—depending on the battery configuration, charging from 20% to 80% can be completed within the statutory driver rest period.
MAN views this market launch as a contribution to the development of the European MCS ecosystem. In addition to the vehicles themselves, the corresponding fast-charging infrastructure and digital billing systems must also be established. To support the rollout of this technology, MAN states it is collaborating with several infrastructure providers, with the goal of ensuring a smooth transition to high-performance charging solutions for heavy commercial vehicles.
The new model is designed to support multiple charging methods. In addition to the MCS interface, the electric trucks can be optionally equipped with an additional CCS charging port to facilitate use of public and private charging infrastructure. The flexible arrangement of the interfaces also enhances applicability across various logistics environments.
Beyond vehicle technology, MAN has expanded its e-mobility-related services, supporting customers in fleet planning, charging infrastructure, and route management. Furthermore, the company has integrated MCS charging points into its consulting and charging solutions, aiming to improve the economic viability of battery-powered trucks in applications such as long-haul transport.
