en.Wedoany.com Reported - ArcelorMittal's (hereinafter referred to as "AM") iron ore production in the second quarter of 2026 increased by 14.4% year-on-year to 13.5 million tons, primarily driven by improved operations at the Liberia mine and the continued ramp-up of the beneficiation plant.

In detail, on production: In Q2, AM Group's total iron ore output reached 13.5 million tons, up 14.4% year-on-year and 4.7% quarter-on-quarter. Among this, the mining segment (including the AMMC mine in Canada and the Liberia mine) produced 10.1 million tons of iron ore, up 22.0% year-on-year and 3.5% quarter-on-quarter. The output growth was mainly attributed to the recovery of seasonal operations at AMMC in Canada and the Liberia mine, while the continued ramp-up of the Liberia beneficiation plant further supported the increase. On shipments: During the same period, iron ore shipments from AM's mining segment totaled 9.4 million tons, down 5.1% year-on-year and 6.0% quarter-on-quarter. Shipments were lower than production, mainly due to heavy rainfall in the Liberia region affecting port operations, while some shipments from AMMC in Canada were also constrained by weather conditions. The company stated that its full-year 2026 iron ore shipment target for Liberia remains at 18 million tons, supported by the ongoing ramp-up of the beneficiation plant. Growth drivers: The core driver of this round of iron ore output growth comes from the continued expansion of AM's Liberia mine. The company is advancing the Phase 2 expansion plan for the Liberia mine, aiming to increase project capacity to 20 million tons per year. Currently, the newly added beneficiation facilities are in the continuous commissioning and ramp-up stage. The company plans to produce a sinter feed blend with an iron grade exceeding 62% by mixing new concentrate and crushed ore products, thereby enhancing the market competitiveness of its products.
