en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Port Authority of Seville (APS) has published an innovative public procurement tender for the first phase of the "Guadaltwin" project—the Guadalquivir Digital Twin—through the public sector contracting platform. The base budget for the tender is $5.9 million (excluding VAT), with an execution period of 18 months.

Guadaltwin aims to make navigation at the Port of Seville more efficient, safer, and more sustainable, with the core objective of enhancing vessel loading capacity and promoting the arrival of more cargo by sea to the docks.
This digital twin system will integrate hydrographic, environmental, and operational data, optimizing navigation through more precise waterway planning and management, while improving operational efficiency and maneuvering performance, and supporting scenario simulation and decision-making.
A key technology of the project is an autopilot simulating operational draft, capable of executing thousands of scenarios within seconds. This module analyzes vessel behavior under combined physical and operational conditions such as tide, draft, current, wind, hydrodynamics, load, or speed, thereby enabling more precise definition and planning of the use of the European Waterway of the Guadalquivir.
Another development is a real-time 3D simulator, providing an immersive virtual environment for pilotage services to assess scenarios and rehearse special or uncommon maneuvers, covering daytime, nighttime, and low-visibility navigation, and also serving as a training platform where personnel can train in a fully safe virtual environment.
Guadaltwin also integrates an automatic voyage planner, which, using the information generated by the first two modules, can reduce administrative processing time and improve the predictability of operational windows and maritime technical services such as pilotage, tugging, and mooring.
This digital twin system will serve the Port Authority of Seville, the Maritime Authority, the Guadalquivir Estuary Pilots' Association, as well as shipping companies, logistics operators, and other users of the Port of Seville. The deadline for bid submission is October 1, 2026. The project falls within the framework of Spain's 2021–2027 Multi-Regional Programme, co-financed at 85% by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), and receives assistance for innovative public procurement through the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities under the Demand-Side Innovation Promotion Line (Línea FID).
