en.Wedoany.com Reported - New progress has been made in the construction of the future Contrecœur container terminal in Quebec, with the delivery of 415 steel sheet piles for the construction of the new terminal quay wall. These steel sheet piles were manufactured at the ArcelorMittal plant in Luxembourg, using 95% recycled steel as raw material.
The steel sheet piles were shipped from the Port of Antwerp in Belgium. Upon arrival in Quebec, Logistec handled the unloading operations and transported them by road to the Contrecœur construction site. Each steel sheet pile measures 23 meters in length, 1.6 meters in width, and weighs approximately 5 tons. The entire transportation process required 95 truck trips, accompanied by specialized handling equipment to ensure the safe and efficient transfer of the large steel structure materials to the construction site.
During terminal construction, these steel sheet piles will be used to form the front wall structure of the future quay wall. Construction crews will first drive the sheet piles into the ground and then connect them to other pile foundation structures to form a continuous steel quay wall; a second row of sheet piles will serve as anchor walls to further reinforce the overall terminal structure, enhancing the stability and long-term load-bearing capacity of the quay wall.
According to the project schedule, in-water construction is expected to begin in August, and this delivery has secured the steel sheet pile materials for this phase.
