en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Port of Toamasina in Madagascar has received the country's first ship-to-shore (STS) gantry cranes. The equipment consists of two ZPMC quay cranes with an outreach of 67.5 meters, equivalent to the width of 24 rows of containers, marking the first deployment of such large-scale handling equipment in Madagascar.

The two quay cranes will be put into operation at the Madagascar International Container Terminal (MICT), operated by International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI). The terminal's newly built C4 container berth, with a total length of 333 meters and a water depth of 16 meters, was inaugurated in March this year, and this equipment will primarily serve vessel loading and unloading operations at this berth.

This equipment investment is expected to enhance the terminal's vessel handling capacity and provide conditions for larger-tonnage container ships to call at the Port of Toamasina.
