In addition to several short-haul segments in the Caribbean and South America, routes from London Heathrow (LHR) to Madrid, Spain, and Abuja, Nigeria, are also on the list.

BA currently operates 43 Boeing 777-200ERs and 16 Boeing 777-300ERs, with average fleet ages of 26.4 years and 11.9 years, respectively. As a founding member of the oneworld alliance, the UK flag carrier typically deploys American-made twin-aisle widebody aircraft like the 777 on long-haul routes from London, but the above schedule shows the type also has short-haul assignments.

Among the routes operated by BA's 777, the six shortest are all located in the Caribbean and South America, mostly serving as the second segment of connecting itineraries originating from or arriving in London. The Antigua to St. Kitts route, at just 63 miles, is the shortest of them all; St. Lucia also connects to Grenada (118 miles), Tobago (178 miles), and Georgetown, Guyana (530 miles); and flights from Nassau serve Providenciales (400 miles) and Grand Cayman (467 miles).

Neil Chernoff, BA's Chief Planning and Strategy Officer, earlier this year explained the airline's plans to increase frequencies on long-haul flights, including Caribbean routes. He said the company is adding service on multiple high-demand routes worldwide, and that these changes represent a significant investment in the long-haul leisure network, aimed at offering customers more choice and options.

Among the 777 short-haul flights from London Heathrow, the shortest is the route to Madrid's Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport (MAD), covering 774 miles. However, this route is not exclusively operated by the 777: daily 777 service runs in August and September, with monthly frequencies gradually declining thereafter to a low of 11 flights in February, before rising again.

Another 777 route from Heathrow under 3,000 miles is the flight to Abuja, Nigeria, at approximately 2,958 miles, which sees daily 777 service. Routes just above the 3,000-mile threshold include London Heathrow to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (3,072 miles), and London Gatwick to Accra, Ghana (3,138 miles).

BA also deploys the 777 on the route from London Heathrow via Rio de Janeiro to Buenos Aires.

The 777 operates this stopover route daily, and by end-to-end distance, it ranks among BA's longest routes, with the Buenos Aires to Rio de Janeiro segment covering 1,240 miles. This stopover arrangement allows BA to serve two South American destinations that have sufficient demand but might struggle to support standalone nonstop flights; fifth-freedom passengers can also fly just the Rio de Janeiro to Buenos Aires segment.
