Wedoany.com Report-May 30, Arcadis, a sustainable design and engineering consultancy, has joined a joint venture named Calcasieu Design Partners to undertake the design phase of the Interstate 10 (I-10) Calcasieu Bridge Improvements Project in Louisiana, USA. The joint venture includes Janssen and Spaans Engineering, Modjeski and Masters, and Huval and Associates. Valued at $2.3 billion, this public-private partnership (P3) is led by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development and the Calcasieu Bridge Partners consortium, comprising Acciona, Sacyr, and Plenary.

The project aims to deliver safety, connectivity, and sustainability improvements for the region.

The project aims to replace the 70-year-old Calcasieu River Bridge, enhancing connectivity between Lake Charles and Westlake. It involves upgrading a 5.5-mile section of I-10 from the I-10/I-210 interchange west to Ryan Street in Calcasieu Parish. Arcadis will provide comprehensive engineering and design services, including environmental studies, traffic management planning, and the design of roadways, drainage systems, bridges, and intelligent transportation systems. The initiative prioritizes safety, sustainability, and regional connectivity, supporting local infrastructure needs without affecting trade or consumption dynamics.

Angelica Corradi Gomez, Arcadis’ Senior Design-Build Project Director, stated: “We are proud to contribute to a project that will improve transportation in the region while creating lasting benefits for the community.” Wassim Selman, Arcadis North America Mobility Segment Director, added: “The I-10 Calcasieu Bridge Improvements Project represents a bold vision for the future of transportation in Southwest Louisiana.” The project is expected to bolster economic and social vitality by addressing aging infrastructure and accommodating future growth.

The scope of work includes updating interchanges, designing permanent signage, signals, and pavement markings, and developing hydraulic models for the main span bridge and the I-10/I-210 flyover ramp. By modernizing this critical transportation corridor, the project will enhance mobility and support economic activity in Southwest Louisiana. In March 2025, Arcadis also secured the lead design role for the QEII Halifax Infirmary Expansion Project in Canada, reflecting its expertise in large-scale infrastructure.

The I-10 Calcasieu Bridge Improvements Project underscores Louisiana’s commitment to sustainable infrastructure, delivering long-term benefits for communities while fostering regional development through improved transportation networks.
