en.Wedoany.com Reported - The district administration of Coimbatore has completed a land survey for a proposed 10.5-meter-wide access road along the new terminal campus of Coimbatore Airport, and has submitted the survey results to the Airports Authority of India (AAI). This move responds to the demands of residents and farmers near the airport, who had been seeking a guaranteed access road to address connectivity issues arising during the airport expansion.

A senior district official stated that the demarcation of the road boundaries was completed on Monday, and an official appointed by the administration will prepare the survey report and revised land maps. The official added that written approval from the Airports Authority of India is expected within the coming days, and once granted, work on the airport boundary wall and the access road will resume simultaneously. This indicates that the local administration and the AAI are coordinating to expedite the subsequent steps.

The land survey was triggered by protests from farmers. Earlier, construction of the airport boundary wall had begun on acquired land, but the width of the road remained a point of contention. Farmers opposed the construction on the grounds that the wall would cut off connectivity between farmlands on either side, and demonstrations at one point brought work to a standstill. The protesters made it clear that construction could only proceed if a 10.5-meter-wide access road was guaranteed.

Following the instructions of the district collector, the administration conducted an extensive survey to finalize the revised alignment of the road between Avinashi Road and the new terminal. The design includes a 40-meter-wide main carriageway with service roads on both sides; the carriageway width for the subsequent stretch of approximately 1,750 meters is 10.5 meters. Sources said that the boundary wall and the access road works will be carried out simultaneously to minimize further disruption.
