en.Wedoany.com Reported - The logistics and mobility sector in the state of Guanajuato, Mexico, already accounts for 7.4% of the state's Gross Domestic Product (GDP), having attracted cumulative investments of $714.62 million during the current administration and providing employment for 51,094 people. Measured by value added, this sector ranks sixth among all industries in the state.

The expansion of Bajío International Airport will enhance commercial and logistics connectivity in Guanajuato.

Thanks to its geographic location, infrastructure, talent pool, and industrial base, Guanajuato has become a strategic hub for the movement of goods, passengers, and products. The sector's business network comprises 873 economic units, with operations spanning freight transportation, passenger transport, and warehousing services.

Logistics operations are concentrated across 11 municipalities, primarily in areas along the main industrial corridors, including León, Celaya, Silao, Irapuato, Salamanca, Apaseo el Grande, and Villagrán. This distribution connects industrial parks, production centers, domestic markets, and export routes.

One of the largest projects in the sector is the Walmart Distribution Center in Silao. This project, which broke ground in 2024 with an investment of $550 million, currently employs 1,044 workers and enhances the warehousing and distribution capacity for goods from Guanajuato's industrial corridors.

In early 2026, Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico announced an investment of $164.64 million for the expansion and modernization of Bajío International Airport. The project aims to increase terminal capacity to accommodate the growth in passenger traffic and business activity in the region.

Claudia Cristina Villaseñor Aguilar, the Secretary of Economy, stated that these projects reflect business confidence in Guanajuato and reinforce the state's role as a logistics and mobility hub. The infrastructure expansion creates opportunities to integrate local suppliers, attract new businesses, and improve the state's connections with both domestic and international markets.
