en.Wedoany.com Reported - Lisbon public transport company (Carris) will build the infrastructure needed for charging electric buses at the Alta de Lisboa and Pontinha depots, and has launched a public tender for this purpose, with a base contract value of €8.25 million.

The tender is divided into two lots: the base price for the Alta de Lisboa depot lot is €3.5 million, and the base price for the Pontinha depot lot is €4.75 million. The scope of work covers all electrical infrastructure required for the operation of the chargers, including the electrical installations that power the equipment.

According to the tender notice, the maximum duration for the works at the Alta de Lisboa depot is 280 days, and 360 days for the Pontinha depot. The contract will be awarded through an open tender, with price as the sole award criterion. Interested companies may submit bids by September 2, 2026. The project will not receive EU fund financing.

This tender is part of Carris's efforts to adapt its depot facilities to the electrification trend of its fleet.

Carris recently received 15 fully electric minibuses, a fleet of vehicles known as "manjericos" representing an investment of around €3 million, which are better suited for operation in Lisbon's historic districts. The company's president assured at the time that 29 standard buses would also be delivered this summer, with a total investment of €16 million, funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR).

Currently, around 48% of Carris's fleet still consists of diesel buses, compared to 70% in 2021. The company's goal is to fully electrify its fleet by 2030.

In terms of operations, Carris saw passenger traffic grow 3% year-on-year in the first half of this year, carrying approximately 67 million passengers over the first six months.
