Wedoany.com Report-Jun 7, Eronet has issued a notice urging users to replace their outdated 3G SIM cards with new 4G-compatible SIM cards to maintain uninterrupted mobile services, especially during international travel. This update is part of broader changes occurring across the European Union as mobile operators move forward with the phased shutdown of 3G networks.
The operator emphasized that switching to 4G SIM cards ensures continued access to essential services such as voice calls, SMS, and high-speed mobile internet, both domestically and abroad. This transition is crucial because the 3G network, which has been widely used over the past two decades, is gradually being decommissioned by European operators to make room for improved 4G and 5G connectivity.
In Croatia, for instance, Hrvatski Telekom completed its 3G network shutdown earlier this year. Other telecommunications providers in the EU have also begun similar shutdowns in order to reallocate spectrum resources more efficiently toward newer, faster mobile technologies.
According to Eronet, the termination of 3G operations will not affect core communication functions. Voice and SMS capabilities will remain available, and users will benefit from faster and more stable internet access via 4G and 5G networks. However, individuals who continue using older SIM cards designed only for 3G services may face issues when trying to connect while traveling in areas where 3G has already been discontinued.
Eronet recommends that customers replace their SIM cards as soon as possible to avoid potential disruptions. New 4G SIM cards are available at Eronet sales locations and offer improved compatibility with modern smartphones and network infrastructure. Users are encouraged to verify whether their current SIM card is 4G-capable and, if not, to initiate the replacement process promptly.
The operator noted that this measure supports both network efficiency and the user experience. As mobile networks evolve to support more data-intensive applications and greater user demand, maintaining access to upgraded network technologies is essential. Upgrading to 4G and 5G not only enables better internet performance but also prepares users for future technological advancements.
Eronet's initiative is in line with global telecom trends, where older generation networks are being retired in favor of more efficient systems that deliver improved coverage, faster data speeds, and increased reliability. The company assures customers that the SIM card replacement process is quick and straightforward, with minimal impact on daily usage.
By encouraging timely upgrades, Eronet aims to ensure that its users continue to benefit from seamless communication and data services, whether at home or traveling within the EU.
