en.Wedoany.com Reported - Kazakhmys Corporation has launched the construction of the "Air-Supply Cage Shaft-2" (Воздухоподающий-клетевой-2) at the eastern block of the "Nurkazgan" deposit in the Karaganda Region. This is one of the company's largest investment projects in recent years, with total investment exceeding 32.5 billion tenge.

This shaft is a key project for the development of the eastern block of the deposit and will open a new stage for the "Nurkazgan" mine. Its construction will support the further development of ore reserves, enhance industrial safety standards, and create modern infrastructure for decades of operation. The shaft is designed to a depth of 1,283.9 meters, making it the deepest mine shaft in Kazakhstan upon completion.

At the groundbreaking ceremony, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Kazakhmys Corporation Nurmukhambet Abdibekov, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chief Operating Officer for Mining and Processing Mukan Ungitbaev, General Director of the Qaragayly Tau-ken ondirisi branch Sayat Bakirov, along with contractor representatives and the workforce, symbolically pressed the start button, officially marking the commencement of construction.

Speaking at the ceremony, Abdibekov stated that this project will determine the development of the "Nurkazgan" mine for decades to come, representing an investment in personnel safety, production growth, and the strengthening of the company's raw material base. The new shaft will enable the enterprise to begin developing the eastern block of the deposit, ensure stable operations, and create conditions for its further growth.

The main objectives of the project are to access ore reserves in the eastern block, deliver fresh air to underground workings, establish the designed ventilation regime, and ensure the safe hoisting of workers. During construction, over 65,000 cubic meters of rock will be excavated, and nine connections to the mine's existing levels will be completed.

Shaft sinking is scheduled for completion in 2031, followed by the installation of modern process equipment, including a cage hoisting system, main ventilation units, and a modular electric boiler house for heating intake air.

The next phase of the eastern block development is the construction of the "Ventilation Shaft-2" (Вентиляционный-2), which the company plans to begin in 2027. Once both shafts are completed, they will form a unified engineering infrastructure providing efficient ventilation, ensuring safe mine operations, and supporting the development of new deposit reserves.

The proven reserves of the "Nurkazgan" deposit contain copper, gold, and silver, sufficient to support stable operations of the mining and processing complex for over 40 years. The implementation of this project is a key element of Kazakhmys's long-term investment program aimed at developing production capacity, enhancing industrial safety standards, and strengthening the company's raw material base.
