Wedoany.com Report-Jun 5, NioBay Metals has begun delivering niobium and tantalum oxides from its SGS pilot plant in Québec City, Canada, marking a key milestone for the Crevier Project. Located approximately 50km north of Girardville and 150km from the Niobec mine, the project lies within the Nitassinan, the ancestral territory of the Pekuakamiulnuatsh First Nation. The initiative is supported by a grant from Québec’s Ministère des Ressources naturelles et des Forêts under the Mining Exploration Support Programme for Critical and Strategic Minerals.
This initial shipment is part of a series, with more deliveries expected throughout the month to other interested parties.
The grant has enabled NioBay to validate its niobium-tantalum concentration process on a pilot scale. The company has initiated its first shipment to a prospective customer to confirm that the product meets industry standards. Additional deliveries are planned throughout the month to other interested parties, fostering further collaboration and testing.
NioBay is working with research partners, including Université Laval, CENET, and URSTM, to distribute the concentrate for exploring alternative methods to produce niobium ammonium oxalate (ANO). The Crevier Project currently focuses on producing niobium oxide for battery manufacturers and tantalum oxide for high-tech applications.
Jean-Sébastien David, NioBay’s president and CEO, stated: “We have just brought the Crevier Project to a new level in its history. These first deliveries to Europe are just the beginning. Consumer trials will allow us to continue the dialogue and work with these potential customers to deliver a product that meets their requirements.” He expressed gratitude to shareholders for their support, highlighting the project’s progress.
Beyond the Crevier Project, NioBay fully owns the James Bay niobium project in Ontario and holds a 72.5% stake in the Crevier niobium and tantalum project in Québec. The company also has an option to acquire an 80% interest in the Foothills titanium-phosphate project near the former St-Urbain mine site in Québec.
The Crevier Project’s advancements support the growing demand for critical minerals used in advanced technologies and renewable energy solutions. By establishing reliable production and engaging with global customers, NioBay aims to strengthen its position in the niobium and tantalum markets while contributing to sustainable resource development in Québec.
