en.Wedoany.com Reported - Samsung Electronics announced on August 10 that it has completed technical verification with Japanese mobile operator NTT Docomo on using AI-RAN to analyze individual users' service usage patterns and real-time wireless environments, and automatically apply network settings. The core of this achievement is "user-customized communication quality optimization": before a user watching a video enters an area with weak signals, the AI predicts quality degradation in advance and adjusts network settings.

While traditional methods apply the same settings uniformly to all connected devices at the base station, the new approach allows AI to independently determine and provide the optimal communication environment. A key feature of this technology is that AI learns users' movement paths and service usage patterns. When using streaming services, a drop in transmission speed may cause quality degradation or buffering; AI can detect this risk in advance and help select the optimal frequency band, allowing users to watch high-definition videos without interruption.
In January, the two companies conducted simulations based on data obtained from NTT Docomo's commercial network and local 5G test network. The verification results showed that the frequency of service transmission speed drops decreased from 13.1% to 7.2%.
The two parties also newly developed a data processing flow to improve operational efficiency. While previously all wireless environment information was processed uniformly, placing a significant burden on the network, the new flow selectively processes only necessary information for each specific problem scenario. In February, Samsung Electronics and NTT Docomo jointly submitted this flow to the global mobile communications standardization organization 3GPP to advance the standardization of related technologies.
Jeong Jin-guk, Executive Vice President of Samsung Research and Head of the Advanced Communications Research Center, stated regarding this achievement that AI can significantly improve individual users' service experiences, and the company will continue to advance AI-RAN technology development and standardization cooperation.
