en.Wedoany.com Reported - On August 7, U.S. President Donald Trump announced at a critical minerals roundtable held at the State Department that the federal government plans to provide approximately $3 billion in financing support for critical minerals and battery projects, covering mineral extraction, smelting and refining, magnet manufacturing, and battery materials production. The meeting brought together more than 200 mining executives, investors, educators, and government representatives.

Under this round of financing, the U.S. Department of Defense's Office of Strategic Capital plans to provide a $1.4 billion conditional loan to silicon-carbon anode materials producer Sila Nanotechnologies, a $400 million conditional loan to Sunrise Energy Metals to advance the Syerston scandium project in Australia, and magnet developer Niron Magnetics will receive a $150 million conditional loan. The Export-Import Bank of the United States will also provide a combined $58 million in loans to three mining companies.
The aforementioned conditional loans remain subject to technical, legal, and financial due diligence and will be disbursed only after final agreements are signed and drawdown conditions are met. Sila's silicon-carbon anode materials plant in the United States began operations in 2025, with an initial planned capacity of 2 gigawatt-hours, expandable to up to 250 gigawatt-hours over the next five years; the Syerston scandium project is scheduled to begin production in the second half of 2028.
The U.S. Department of Energy announced the same day that it will invest $100 million to support mining education programs, with a goal of doubling the number of graduates in mining-related disciplines within two years; the Department of Defense will also invest $80 million in programs at three mining schools. Previously, the U.S. government had established a strategic minerals reserve of $12 billion and required the defense supply chain to increase sources of critical materials from the United States and allied nations.
