en.Wedoany.com Reported - Western Sydney International Airport (WSI) has announced that Vietjet Air will launch passenger services between WSI and Ho Chi Minh City from January 2027, marking the Vietnamese carrier's entry into Sydney's newest international gateway. The airport's passenger services are scheduled to commence later this year.

The Ho Chi Minh City route will operate twice weekly initially, increasing to three times weekly from March 2027. The airport also confirmed that Vietjet Thailand, a joint venture of Vietjet Air, plans to launch services between WSI and Bangkok from November 2027, subject to regulatory approval, with four flights per week.

The inaugural flight is scheduled for Sunday, January 10, 2027, operating every Sunday and Wednesday. The flight arrives at WSI at 10:00 local time and departs WSI for Ho Chi Minh City at 12:05, operated by Vietjet Air's Airbus A330 aircraft with capacity for 377 passengers. Specific flight schedules for the Bangkok route have not yet been announced.

Tickets for the Ho Chi Minh City route go on sale from August 10, 2026, with one-way fares starting from AUD 299 (approximately USD 212), featuring early booking promotions and covering travel for the Lunar New Year in early February 2027.

WSI Chief Executive Officer Simon Hickey said the route reflects strong demand between New South Wales and Vietnam, with over 500,000 passenger movements between the two destinations in 2025 alone. Western Sydney is home to more than 70,000 residents of Vietnamese descent, accounting for over half of Greater Sydney's Vietnamese population, many of whom travel frequently to visit family. The new toll-free M12 motorway will provide these communities with direct access to the airport, and passengers flying from WSI to Ho Chi Minh City can connect to more than 40 domestic and international destinations across Vietnam.

The Ho Chi Minh City route has received support from the New South Wales Government's Western Sydney International Take-Off Fund. Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Catherine King said the new route marks Vietjet Air's fifth destination in Australia and reflects WSI's growing momentum ahead of the launch of passenger services. She noted that the announcement comes just 76 days before WSI's first passenger flights, with terminal testing and final preparations underway.

New South Wales Minister for Jobs and Tourism Steve Kamper said the state government is proud to support this new route through the Take-Off Fund, and that an exciting time lies ahead for local tourism, businesses, and jobs as the airport prepares to open. Vietjet Air Chief Executive Officer Nguyen Thanh Son said Vietjet Air is delighted to be among the first airlines to operate at WSI, as part of its strategy to expand its international network and deepen Vietnam-Australia connections.
