en.Wedoany.com Reported - On August 10, Buenos Aires Metro in Argentina pre-awarded the Line B communication-based train control system renovation project to Zhuzhou CRRC Times Electric, which plans to adopt a GoA 2 CBTC system to replace the existing ATP system. The project is being procured through direct purchase, which the metro company attributes to the need for standardization of trains and signaling equipment. Formal award of the contract remains subject to approval by the company's board of directors, and no final contract has been signed at this stage.

According to the implementation plan, the new system will be put into operation in the 20th month after the work commencement order is issued, initially covering 17 trains; by the 34th month, the CBTC system will be extended to all 29 trains, with the original ATP equipment dismantled simultaneously. The system will be integrated with automatic train operation functions, automatically completing acceleration, running, and stopping while retaining a driver on board.

This signaling renovation is part of the overall renewal plan for Line B. CRRC Changchun has already secured a supply contract for 29 trains, totaling 174 metro cars, with a contract value of approximately $302 million. The new trains are scheduled to arrive in phases starting from the first quarter of 2027, initially operating with the existing ATP system before transitioning to the CBTC system in stages, and gradually replacing the existing Mitsubishi and CAF 6000 series trains.

The existing ATP system on Line B has been in operation since 2003. The CBTC equipment used on Buenos Aires Metro Lines C, D, and H is all Siemens Mobility Trainguard MT systems. If this project receives formal award and is implemented, it will become the first signaling system project supplied by a Chinese enterprise on this metro network.
