With this integration, engineers using ATS 8000 for automated testing of power conversion devices can invoke MXO oscilloscopes within their existing workflows for real-time waveform acquisition, fault debugging, and product calibration, with applications spanning high-power power supply systems for AI data centers.

The expansion of AI infrastructure is driving up power demands in data centers and related systems, prompting power supply vendors to develop higher-power, higher-density designs, including products for the latest HVDC (high-voltage direct current) power architectures. Power conversion device and power supply development engineers typically rely on automated test platforms such as ATS 8000 to perform waveform capture, debugging, and calibration tasks during the development process.
ATS 8000 is designed for automated testing of various power conversion devices and power supplies, and Chroma has now added Rohde & Schwarz MXO series digital oscilloscopes to the system's optional hardware lineup. In automated power supply testing, oscilloscopes play a critical role in capturing transient behavior and dynamic waveforms in real time.
Based on Rohde & Schwarz's proprietary MXO-EP processing ASIC, the new MXO series offers a waveform capture rate of up to 4.5 million acquisitions per second, helping to reduce measurement blind time and present signal behavior more accurately. The series features advanced digital triggering, adjustable sensitivity, and low trigger jitter, enabling detection of subtle signal anomalies; in HD mode, it supports up to 18-bit resolution and input sensitivity down to 0.5 mV/div.
High-density power delivery places greater demands on channel count. A single power rack often needs to support multiple power modules, as well as battery backup units (BBU) and capacitor backup units (CBU) configured in series or parallel, which can create complex measurement scenarios involving more than eight channels during testing. The MXO series offers models with up to eight channels and, leveraging Rohde & Schwarz's ScopeSync architecture, supports master-slave synchronization across multiple instruments, expandable to 24 synchronized channels, facilitating debugging and alignment of manual inspection results with automated test outputs.
On the software side, ATS 8000 is equipped with Chroma's PowerPro 5 control software, allowing engineers to tailor the test system as needed and run external programs written in C# or Python within test sequences to add custom analysis steps, including decoding serial communication bus control frames or executing product-specific calibration procedures, to suit real-world applications and production line environments.
Evan Tsai, Product Manager for Chroma ATS 8000 software solutions, stated that adding support for the MXO series oscilloscopes expands the platform's capabilities for advanced power testing, and Chroma will continue to develop automated test technologies to provide more complete measurement solutions for power supply manufacturers worldwide.
