en.Wedoany.com Reported - On August 11, Hitachi Rail disclosed that it has completed the deployment of a new-generation electronic interlocking system at two railway stations in Romania, Ciulnița and Fetești. The system at Ciulnița station was commissioned in December 2025, while Fetești station was commissioned in June 2026. The project was implemented by CFR SA, Romania's national railway infrastructure management company.

The two stations are located on the European Pan-European Corridor IV, along the Nuremberg—Prague—Vienna—Budapest—Bucharest—Constanța railway route. The works include the renovation of railway infrastructure and superstructure, civil engineering construction, power supply and overhead contact line system upgrades, as well as the installation of video surveillance, passenger information, public address, and communication systems.
Hitachi Rail supplied the ESTW/IXL L90 RO electronic interlocking system for the project. The system is based on the Technology and Application System (TAS) platform, runs on IPR 7.0 software, and was deployed for the first time on Romania's railway network at Ciulnița station, replacing the SELMIS interlocking platform that had been in service for more than 20 years.
The new system is equipped with data recorders for equipment maintenance, operational diagnostics, and fault analysis; a cybersecurity observer monitors system operation status and potential cybersecurity risks. The platform also supports the connection of railway signalling, station communication, and related control equipment, reducing system deployment time and operational energy consumption.
The systems at both stations were developed and implemented in accordance with the CENELEC railway safety, availability, and reliability standards. Following the commissioning of the Fetești station system in June 2026, both stations have completed the transition to the new-generation digital electronic interlocking platform.
