en.Wedoany.com Reported - On 12 August, Marshalls' Civils & Drainage business, a UK building materials company, was shortlisted for Severn Trent Water's £6 million precast concrete tank framework, which will supply modular precast concrete components for stormwater attenuation and associated water supply and drainage facilities during the eighth asset management period (AMP8) of the UK water industry.
The framework has a value of £5 million excluding VAT and a total of £6 million including tax, with a base term running from 13 April 2026 to 13 April 2028, and includes extension arrangements; if all extension options are exercised, the framework may run until 13 April 2031 at the latest. The £6 million is the estimated total value of the entire framework, not all of which is attributable to Marshalls, nor does it represent confirmed orders of an equivalent amount secured by the company.
In addition to Marshalls Mono, other framework suppliers include FLI Precast Solutions UK, Kilnbridge Structures and Shay Murtagh Precast. Under the procurement arrangement, Severn Trent will identify one primary supplier for initial delivery, while retaining up to three secondary suppliers to meet subsequent project call-offs and supply chain resilience requirements.
The procurement centres on Severn Trent's "plug-and-play" modular precast concrete tank system. The products will be used for above-ground rectangular tanks, below-ground rectangular tanks, above-ground circular tanks and below-ground circular tanks, with the first product to be designed and procured being a 6-metre-high above-ground rectangular tank. The remaining product lines are still in the design refinement stage, with subsequent demand expected to be released gradually as AMP8 projects are implemented.
The system can be applied to drinking water storage facilities and wastewater treatment facilities, but the procurement notice indicates that the majority of precast tank panels are expected to be used for wastewater assets, including stormwater attenuation tanks and similar facilities. The tanks can temporarily store water entering the drainage system during heavy rainfall, reducing the risk of network overload, urban flooding and sewage overflow, before conveying the stored water to treatment facilities once the rainfall has subsided.
Severn Trent hopes that standardised tank designs and factory prefabrication will compress project design and on-site construction timelines, while also reducing construction costs and carbon emissions. Compared with traditional cast-in-place construction, modular precast components can be manufactured in advance, reducing on-site formwork, rebar fixing and concrete pouring operations, but actual orders will still be called off in batches under the framework depending on the commencement of specific projects.
The framework forms part of Severn Trent's water infrastructure upgrade programme during AMP8. AMP8 covers 2025 to 2030 and is the regulatory cycle during which water companies in England and Wales concentrate investment in water supply security, wastewater treatment, stormwater management and environmental improvement. By securing a place on the framework, Marshalls has gained eligibility to supply the relevant precast tank projects, with future revenue depending on the outcome of the primary supplier selection and actual order volumes from individual projects.
