Wedoany.com Report-Jun 9, Algeria’s regulatory authority for postal and electronic communications, ARPCE, has launched a tender process to award three 5G internet service licenses to existing mobile operators Mobilis, Djezzy, and Ooredoo. The initiative, announced in Algiers, aims to introduce advanced mobile connectivity across the country starting in the second half of 2025.

ARPCE’s statement emphasized the goal of initiating commercial 5G operations while ensuring fair competition among operators. The authority is committed to overseeing the rollout to maintain market stability, uphold service quality, and meet growing demand for high-speed internet. Operators must obtain tender documents from ARPCE’s headquarters in Algiers for a fee of 1 million Algerian dinars, payable via bank transfer.

Sid Ali Zerrouki, Minister of Post and Telecommunications, stated in April 2025: “Technical preparations for 5G deployment are progressing, with plans to introduce the technology in the second half of 2025.” Mobilis, holding a 43.70% share of Algeria’s mobile market, has already conducted successful 5G trials at its Algiers headquarters, demonstrating its readiness for wider implementation.

The 5G rollout is expected to enhance sectors such as healthcare, industry, logistics, and education, driving innovation and supporting Algeria’s digital transformation objectives. ARPCE plans to announce the licensing results in the coming weeks, detailing market entry conditions, coverage requirements, investment commitments, and service quality standards for the operators.
