en.Wedoany.com Reported - Diraq, a developer of silicon spin qubit hardware, has opened its first U.S. research and measurement laboratory in Chicago, Illinois, located at the Illinois Quantum and Microelectronics Park (IQMP) On-Ramp program within mHUB, Chicago's innovation center. The facility extends Diraq's global R&D footprint from its headquarters in Sydney, Australia, to the United States, accelerating the development of its utility-scale silicon quantum processors.

The new laboratory is equipped with two dedicated cryogenic dilution refrigerators, providing Diraq's U.S. engineering team with low-temperature measurement infrastructure for the testing, characterization, and validation of silicon spin qubit chips and integrated cryo-CMOS control electronics. The Sydney headquarters continues to handle quantum processing unit (QPU) design and device fabrication and theory work related to CMOS-compatible semiconductor foundries.

Leveraging the complementary time zones between Sydney and Chicago, Diraq can maintain a continuous 24-hour experimental measurement cycle, enhancing device iteration and qubit characterization efficiency. With support from IQMP and the Illinois Economic Development Corporation (IEDC), the laboratory gains immediate lab access through the On-Ramp program; a permanent 128-acre IQMP campus is under construction on Chicago's South Side.

Diraq's architecture forms electron spin qubits in quantum dots using standard silicon CMOS semiconductor processes. Its roadmap proposes achieving rack-scale quantum systems with thousands of physical qubits by 2029, with a long-term goal of integrating millions of qubits per chip.

Driven by CEO and founder Andrew Dzurak, IQMP CEO Harley Johnson, and IEDC Chief Quantum Officer Dr. Preeti Chalsani, this expansion brings Diraq into Illinois' continuously growing quantum ecosystem, creating synergies with national laboratories and regional academic centers.
