Canadian Solar 940kWh Energy Storage Passes Fire Test, Mass Production in August 2026
en.Wedoany.com Reported - E-STORAGE, the energy storage subsidiary of Canadian Solar Inc., announced that its commercial and industrial energy storage system KuBank 3.0 has passed the Large-Scale Fire Test (LSFT), becoming the industry's first product to pass the new UL 9540A:2026 standard test.

The test was witnessed by TÜV Rheinland and fire safety consulting firm Energy Safety Response Group (ESRG), both of which subsequently conducted independent verification of the test process. According to E-STORAGE, the standard is extremely stringent, with the test designed to evaluate the performance of energy storage products under extreme fire conditions. The test was conducted with the system at full charge, during which thermal runaway was intentionally triggered on the battery system, and all fire suppression systems were disabled throughout the four-hour fire event.
The test results showed that KuBank 3.0 did not explode during the testing phase, the cabinet structure remained fully intact, and the system passed the test on the first attempt, with no fire spreading to adjacent units.
Jeff Roy, President of E-STORAGE, stated that passing the large-scale fire test on the first attempt demonstrates the safety-first design strength of KuBank 3.0. As safety standards continue to evolve, customers need energy storage solutions validated under rigorous real-world conditions, and this achievement helps strengthen confidence in the safe deployment of KuBank 3.0 in commercial and industrial (C&I) applications.
During the design phase, Canadian Solar's broader engineering team incorporated stringent fire safety testing requirements into consideration. KuBank 3.0 has a rated capacity of 940 kWh, housed in a single liquid-cooled cabinet, and supports three voltage architectures—400 V, 690 V, and 800 V—all equipped with integrated load connections.
According to the company, the battery's intelligent liquid cooling system can control battery temperature deviation to 3°C or below. The multi-layer architecture enhances the system's active safety through integrated zone isolation, thermal runaway monitoring, and other protection technologies. KuBank 3.0 also adopts an independent physical compartment architecture, high-strength fire-resistant structures, and advanced thermal insulation materials to enhance fire safety performance at the system level.
KuBank 3.0 has entered mass production in August 2026 and is now available to commercial and industrial battery customers worldwide.
