en.Wedoany.com Reported - Metso is investing EUR 19 million in a new service center in Minas Gerais, Brazil, to strengthen its service capabilities in the heart of Brazil's mining region. The facility is expected to become operational in the first quarter of 2028.

South America is one of the most important mining regions globally and a key supply source for critical minerals production. Heikki Metsälä, President of Metso's Services business area, stated that South America is a key market for Metso, with approximately 20,000 Metso units currently operating in the region, and customer investments continue to drive growing service demand. To help customers improve equipment availability and productivity throughout the entire operational lifecycle, Metso continues to invest in its service network in strategically important locations to deliver a better overall customer experience.

Over the past two years, Metso has invested approximately EUR 45 million in modernizing its service center network in South America, and this newly approved EUR 19 million investment is the latest step in that program. The new facility will be located in one of Brazil's major mining regions and will enhance Metso's service capabilities in the country upon completion. Metso's investment footprint in South America also includes expanding capacity in Antofagasta, Chile, and Parauapebas, Brazil, as well as a new facility in La Joya – Arequipa, Peru. In the second quarter of 2026, Metso also opened a new office in San Juan, Argentina, to get closer to customers and enhance collaboration flexibility and strategic presence. As the next step in Argentina, Metso will build robust infrastructure for specialized services and technical support to improve equipment availability and shorten response times.

These investments aim to strengthen one of the most extensive service and repair networks in South America's major mining regions, thereby providing closer customer support, faster service response, and more robust lifecycle services. Brazil's increasingly active mining activity, supported by a solid critical minerals market, is driving higher demand for repair and maintenance services in the country. Metso's existing service center in Sorocaba is operating at full capacity, necessitating additional service capabilities near key mining operations. The new service center, located near Belo Horizonte, the capital of Minas Gerais, will serve one of Brazil's most active mining regions while reducing transport distances and improving service response capabilities.

Eduardo Nilo, President of Metso's South America market area, stated that this expansion will double capacity. All service centers are fully equipped to support the new technologies Metso offers, including repairs of HRC equipment in the region, and are fitted with overhead cranes to handle these high-value assets safely and efficiently. This brings specialized capabilities closer to customers, enabling faster response and higher operational continuity, while reinforcing Metso's leadership in crushing services and its commitment to supporting the mining industry with the capabilities needed today and in the future.

In addition to its service center network, Metso has a diversified manufacturing footprint in South America, including rubber and Poly-Met wear parts production, foundry operations, pump assembly, screening and crushing equipment manufacturing, as well as a performance center. Metso has approximately 3,000 experts serving mining customers across the region, combining local presence with global technology leadership. Its testing and laboratory capabilities, R&D activities, sales and field service organizations, and growing service center network enable Metso to deliver market-leading technology, lifecycle services, and expert support close to customer operations. This comprehensive regional footprint helps customers improve performance and productivity while consolidating Metso's position as a leading partner for the mining and aggregates industries in South America.
