Bengaluru Metro Awards BEL Rs 40 Million Contract to Set Up Security Operations Centre
en.Wedoany.com Reported - Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) has awarded a contract worth Rs 40 million to Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) to set up a dedicated Security Operations Centre (SOC) to safeguard its information technology and closed-circuit television (CCTV) infrastructure against cyber threats.

The centre will be housed at BMRCL's Byappanahalli premises and will operate round the clock to monitor IT and CCTV networks, while performing log analysis, detection of suspicious activities, and response to potential cyber attacks. The contract is part of a broader effort to enhance the cyber resilience of the city's transit system.
The SOC integrates multiple cybersecurity tools—including security information and event management, security orchestration, automation and response, and threat intelligence—into a unified platform, and deploys artificial intelligence and machine learning to improve detection capabilities. The platform correlates event logs with vulnerability information, network traffic, and external threat intelligence to provide real-time security monitoring and event prioritisation; verified incidents will be escalated to BMRCL's IT team for containment and remediation.
Logs will be collected from the CCTV video management system rather than individual cameras, enabling the identification of anomalous internet protocol addresses or external access attempts without the need to review surveillance footage channel by channel. The system can identify and block unauthorised addresses attempting to enter the wide area network or the internet. BMRCL plans to extend monitoring to other critical subsystems in subsequent phases to reduce blind spots and shorten incident response times.
BMRCL's tender required "Make in India" products. Bharat Electronics is serving as the system integrator, while SecureTech is providing the cybersecurity solutions as the original equipment manufacturer. BMRCL's cybersecurity posture will be assessed based on the NIST Cybersecurity Framework to identify gaps and develop a roadmap for strengthening defences. The platform includes protections against malware, ransomware, and rootkits, and provides a centralised view of threats within BMRCL's infrastructure.
