en.Wedoany.com Reported - On August 21, INEOS Inovyn, Europe's largest vinyl chloride producer, announced it had reached an agreement to acquire the remaining 50% stake in Runcorn MCP Limited held by Vynova Runcorn Limited, along with the assets and employees associated with the dichloroethane (EDC) production at the Runcorn site. Vynova Runcorn entered insolvency administration in 2025.

The Runcorn site is the UK's only EDC production facility. EDC is a key intermediate in the production of vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC). The plant supplies approximately 98% of the chlorine used in UK drinking water treatment, making it strategically significant to public health and national security infrastructure.

This acquisition will integrate Runcorn's chlor-alkali and EDC operations under INEOS Inovyn, achieving vertical integration of the value chain. INEOS Inovyn CEO Stephen Dossett stated that the transaction reflects the company's long-term confidence in the Runcorn site and its technical team, noting that chlor-alkali products are indispensable to critical industries such as drinking water safety, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, and construction.

The transaction remains subject to the necessary legal and regulatory approval processes and is expected to close within 2026. Upon completion, it will further consolidate the strategic autonomy and supply chain resilience of the UK's chlor-alkali industry.
