en.Wedoany.com Reported - LATAM Group will install multi-orbit satellite connectivity equipment on more than 60 new Airbus and Embraer aircraft, with an investment exceeding $25 million. This move is part of the group's series of initiatives to enhance the digital experience of air travel.

Over 60 LATAM aircraft to be equipped with high-speed satellite internet

The new solution utilizes satellites positioned in different orbits to provide services, ensuring that passengers can enjoy more stable and broader internet access during flights, regardless of the route or aircraft location. Paulo Miranda, Vice President of Customers at LATAM Group, stated that the group is committed to making every journey more connected, integrating next-generation multi-orbit connectivity technology across a larger portion of its fleet to deliver a fast and reliable in-flight internet experience for passengers.

Over the next few years, these more than 60 aircraft will adopt SES's satellite communication solutions, involving models such as the Airbus A320neo, A321XLR, and Embraer E195-E2. This deployment also expands the nearly decade-long partnership between LATAM and SES, with the 2Ku service from their previous collaboration currently installed on more than 200 of LATAM's Airbus A320 series aircraft. LATAM currently operates the largest connected fleet in Latin America, with over 250 aircraft equipped with in-flight Wi-Fi.

Members of LATAM's frequent flyer program, LATAM Pass, can use in-flight Wi-Fi for free, staying online during flights for communication, work, and access to digital content and services. The in-flight connectivity service complements the LATAM Play entertainment system, which offers over 2,000 hours of audiovisual content, including more than 300 movies, over 1,000 TV episodes, and more than 900 music albums, with the catalog also featuring children's content, reading materials, and works from platforms such as Disney+, HBO Max, and Paramount+.
