Corvus and BYD to Launch LFP Battery System at SMM on September 2

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On August 27, Corvus Energy launched the Blue Whale NxtGen Power marine lithium iron phosphate (LFP) energy storage system. Developed jointly by Corvus Energy and BYD Energy Storage, this is the first commercial product released since the two companies established their partnership in December 2025, targeting tugboats, workboats, offshore service vessels, and large ferries requiring rapid charging.

Under the division of responsibilities, BYD Energy Storage supplies cell technology and manufactures cell stacks, while Corvus Energy handles overall system design and architecture, including marine safety features, battery management systems, cybersecurity, digital battery passports, and class society certification, as well as final assembly, testing, and full lifecycle services.

The Blue Whale NxtGen Power is built on the Corvus NxtGen platform, sharing battery stack interfaces, battery module designs, battery management systems, and cell string components with other products in the series. This product targets marine applications where power demand exceeds total energy storage capacity requirements, including tugboats and workboats requiring high-power operation, offshore service vessels using batteries for power optimization, and ferries needing rapid recharging between voyages.

Corvus Energy and BYD Energy Storage signed a memorandum of understanding in December 2025 and a strategic cooperation agreement in May 2026, covering the development of marine battery systems based on high-rate LFP technology. The two companies plan to showcase the Blue Whale NxtGen Power and Corvus Energy's existing LFP product portfolio at the SMM maritime trade fair in Hamburg, Germany, on September 2.

Corvus Energy previously launched the Blue Whale NxtGen Energy in December 2025, which also utilizes LFP technology with a charge/discharge rate of 1C, with initial project deliveries scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026. The newly added Power version further expands coverage to high-power marine applications.
