en.Wedoany.com Reported - On August 28, John Cockerill India Limited confirmed receipt of an order for steel processing equipment from A1 Iron & Steel Tanzania Limited, with a total contract value of approximately INR 2 billion. The equipment will be installed at the A1 Iron & Steel plant in Nala Industrial Park, Dodoma, Tanzania, with the contract execution period spanning 10 months starting from August 2026.

The contract scope includes design, manufacturing, supply of key equipment, as well as on-site supervision services for installation, commissioning, and performance testing. The main equipment consists of a push-pull pickling line, one 6-high single-stand reversing cold rolling mill, one continuous galvanizing line, and one acid regeneration unit. John Cockerill subsequently referred to this equipment package as an integrated cold rolling complex on August 31, encompassing pickling and acid regeneration, 6-high cold rolling, and coating treatment processes.

Among these, the pickling line is used for surface treatment of hot-rolled coils before they enter the subsequent cold rolling process, with the accompanying acid regeneration unit recovering hydrochloric acid for reuse in production; the 6-high cold rolling mill handles control of strip thickness, flatness, and surface quality. The equipment contract also covers subsequent supervision of installation, commissioning, and performance testing.

This batch of equipment corresponds to the steel manufacturing project that A1 Iron & Steel is currently building in Nala, Dodoma. According to project plans published by Tanzania's mining sector in June, the overall investment in the plant exceeds TZS 600 billion, with iron ore as the primary raw material, and is planned to produce steel products such as roofing sheets, steel wire, reinforcing mesh, and nails; at that time, construction was planned to be completed over 15 months starting from July 2026, with approximately 1,500 jobs to be created.

This equipment contract of approximately INR 2 billion corresponds only to the cold rolling and related processing equipment scope undertaken by John Cockerill, and does not equate to the overall project investment of over TZS 600 billion for the Nala steel plant. Under the contract arrangements, John Cockerill's equipment supply and related services will be executed over a 10-month period starting from August 2026.
