Eight Lots of the Craig–Land of Canaan Road in Guyana Advance, with Completion Planned for the First Quarter of 2027

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 15, Guyana's Ministry of Housing inspected the progress of the Craig–Land of Canaan road project. The project is divided into 8 construction lots, with road, bridge, drainage, and irrigation works being carried out simultaneously along the route, and the overall project is planned for completion by the end of the first quarter of 2027. The project passes through multiple residential and agricultural areas along the East Bank Demerara River, and the Land of Canaan end will serve as an important exit node for the entire road.

Some areas along the project route consist of swampy terrain, requiring large-scale sand filling during construction, and subsequent road structure construction can proceed only after the fill material has completed settlement and compaction. Bridge works also need to meet concrete curing periods. The Ministry of Housing stated that the drainage and irrigation plans along the route have been approved by the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority, and the design of the main bridge at Land of Canaan has also been approved.

The works include multiple bridges, one of which is approximately 300 feet long, along with supporting culverts, drainage channels, and irrigation facilities. Once completed, the project will create a new continuous road link between Craig and Land of Canaan and connect with the previously built Diamond–Craig extension section.

The 8 lots are respectively undertaken by Ashoka Buildcon, H. Nauth and Sons, the consortium of R. Bassoo and Sons and Qingjian Group Guyana, the consortium of S. Jagmohan Construction and VALS Construction, the consortium of Aronco Services and Build Smart Construction, China Railway First Group, ProBuild Hardware and Construction, and the consortium of KP Thomas and Sons and Constructora Soma.

The Craig–Land of Canaan project is part of the Guyana Ministry of Housing's approximately GY$52 billion road investment plan, and this funding does not correspond solely to this project. The 2026 national budget also allocates GY$28.6 billion to continue advancing the Heroes Highway from Busby Dam to Land of Canaan and to connect it with the Soesdyke–Linden Highway.
