Kenya's Dhogoye Bridge reaches 81% completion, with project investment of approximately KES 1.999 billion

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 15, the Kenyan government announced the latest progress on the Dhogoye Bridge and approach roads project in Siaya County, with overall construction completion having reached 81%. The project is located on the Kisian—Usenge—Osieko (B10) road, with the main bridge approximately 200 meters long, connecting Usenge and Got Agulu Island.

According to data from the Kenya National Highways Authority, the Dhogoye Bridge contract amount is KES 1,999,349,505.6. The contract took effect on June 21, 2021, with an original contract period of 18 months. The project experienced significant delays in its early stages due to insufficient funding disbursement, with construction completion at only about 21% in 2023.

The project design scope includes a 200-meter bridge and approximately 4 kilometers of approach roads. Civil One Consulting Engineers participated in the design review, with the bridge crossing the waterway between Lake Sare and Lake Victoria. The B10 road where the bridge is located also serves passenger transport, fish transport, sand and gravel transport, and agricultural produce transport.

The project was accelerated again in 2026. The Kenyan government disclosed at the beginning of the year that more than KES 660 million had been invested in the project at that time, with plans to disburse an additional KES 200 million to support construction. During the same period, the government proposed resurfacing approximately 30 kilometers of road from Bondo to Osieko, enabling the bridge project and road improvements along the route to advance in tandem.

The Dhogoye Bridge was originally planned for completion in 2022 but has been subject to prolonged delays. In January 2026, Kenya's Roads and Transport department proposed advancing the project completion date to September of that year; as of the latest inspection on September 15, actual completion stands at 81%, and the project remains under construction.
