en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 21, the steel truss girder of the main bridge of the Huangjiaotuo Yangtze River Bridge in Chongqing, China, was successfully closed, with the final 572-ton steel truss girder segment precisely lifted into place. The bridge, constructed by China Railway Construction Bridge Engineering Bureau Group, is a controlling project of the Yuchang Expressway Parallel Line Connector Road. With a total length of 1,260 meters and a main span of 765 meters, it is the world's largest under-construction road-rail dual-purpose suspension bridge. This closure completed the critical assembly process of the main bridge's steel truss girder, and the project has now entered the subsequent construction phase for the bridge deck and ancillary facilities.

The Huangjiaotuo Yangtze River Bridge connects Jiguanshi in Nan'an District with Tieshanping in Liangjiang New Area, Chongqing. It adopts a dual-tower, three-span continuous steel truss girder suspension bridge structure, with total steel consumption exceeding 33,000 tons. The main bridge steel truss girder was constructed through factory prefabrication in segments, waterway transportation, and on-site lifting and assembly. On November 16, 2025, the first segment weighing 695 tons was lifted into place, followed by the progressive assembly of main span segments until this closure was achieved.

The bridge features a double-deck configuration: the upper deck carries a dual-direction 6-lane urban expressway, while the lower deck has dual-direction 4-lane urban arterial roads on both sides, with a reserved corridor for Phase III of Rail Transit Line 18 in the middle and sidewalks on the outer sides. The south and north bridge towers connect to the urban expressway and regional road systems respectively, achieving concentrated deployment of urban expressways, arterial roads, and rail transit corridors.

The main towers reach a maximum height of 161 meters, and the cable force of a single main cable reaches 42,000 tons. During construction, the team completed main tower concrete pouring, pilot cable installation, main cable erection, and steel truss girder lifting. The main cables were completed in July 2025, steel truss girder lifting began in November of the same year, and by May 21, 2026, 59 of the 63 segments had been completed, bringing steel truss girder assembly progress to 93%.

The Yuchang Expressway Parallel Line Connector Road, where the Huangjiaotuo Yangtze River Bridge is located, has a total length of approximately 21.78 kilometers. It starts from the Dafosi South Bridgehead Interchange of the Inner Ring Road in Nan'an District in the west, crosses the Yangtze River eastward, passes through Tongluo Mountain, and connects to the Yuchang Parallel Line Expressway toll station. The entire project is scheduled for completion by the end of 2027. Once completed, it will connect the Inner Ring Expressway, Yuhang Avenue, and the Yuchang Parallel Line Expressway, helping to distribute traffic from existing cross-river channels such as the Cuntan Yangtze River Bridge.
