UAE Plans to Upgrade 13 Kilometers of Urban Roads and Build 3 New Bridges
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 11, the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) of Abu Dhabi, UAE, announced a road upgrade plan for the Musaffah area. The project covers approximately 13 kilometers along the E30 highway and 8th Street, including the upgrade of 4 interchanges, the reconstruction of 9 major intersections, and the construction of 2 new vehicular bridges and 1 pedestrian bridge. The project involves road connections between the Musaffah Industrial Area and Mohamed Bin Zayed City and Zayed City.

The 8th Street upgrade project plans to build a free-flowing road without signalized intersections, with 3 lanes in each direction on the mainline and 3 auxiliary lanes on each side of the road. The auxiliary lanes will mainly handle vehicle access to shops and public facilities along the route, while the mainline will carry through traffic. The designed capacity of the upgraded 8th Street is approximately 4,000 vehicles per hour.
The E30 highway renovation project includes the upgrade of 4 existing interchanges and improvements to connections with 8th Street and the E20 highway. DMT also plans to reconfigure 9 major road intersections and build 2 new bridges connecting Musaffah and Mohamed Bin Zayed City. A dedicated pedestrian bridge is also planned as part of the area's road supporting facilities.
The Musaffah Revitalization and Development Plan announced by DMT on October 1 incorporates the 8th Street and E30 corridor projects into the first phase of infrastructure development in the district. This phase will last until 2030, with development concentrated in northern Musaffah and the Northern Waterfront, including residential and commercial mixed-use facilities, a new district center, and the transformation of the existing automotive industry cluster, with plans to release approximately 100 hectares of developable land in the first batch.
DMT also plans to build two subsea tunnels connecting the eastern end of Abu Dhabi Island with Musaffah, passing beneath the Khor Al Maqta and Al Hudayriyat Island waterways. This subsea passage is part of a separate regional transportation plan and has not yet been included in the specific construction scope of this 13-kilometer road project.
