The 1,030-meter Yellow River Grand Bridge on the Shenmu-Watang Railway, constructed by China Railway 18th Bureau Group, was successfully closed
en.Wedoany.com Reported - At 10:10 on October 10, the Yellow River Grand Bridge on the Shenmu-Watang Railway, built by Feng-Hong Railway Company of Shaanxi Railway Logistics Group, surveyed and designed by China Railway First Survey and Design Institute Group Co., Ltd., and constructed by China Railway 18th Bureau Group, was successfully closed. The bridge has a total length of 1,030.04 meters and is the only bridge crossing the Yellow River along the entire Shenmu-Watang Railway. The maximum span of the main bridge continuous girder is 138 meters, and the closure section is located above the main channel of the Yellow River.

The main line of the Shenmu-Watang Railway has a total length of 75.17 kilometers and a design speed of 120 kilometers per hour. It adopts the National Class I single-track electrified railway standard and connects Shenmu City in Shaanxi Province with Watang Town in Xingxian County, Shanxi Province. The civil engineering section undertaken by China Railway 18th Bureau Group has a total length of 13.58 kilometers, with main construction contents including 19 bridges, 18 culverts, 5 tunnels, 1 station yard, as well as subgrade earthwork for sections and station yards, and large temporary facilities.
The Yellow River Grand Bridge crosses the Yanhuang Sightseeing Highway, the main channel of the Yellow River, and Provincial Highway S249 in sequence, with the bridge deck approximately 60 meters above the water surface. The construction involves high-pier aerial work, underwater and underwater foundation construction, protection for crossing existing highways, steel sheet pile cofferdams, steel trestles, and large-scale hoisting operations. The project team prepared specialized construction plans for large-span cantilever casting with form travelers, underwater foundations, cross-highway protection, and embankment treatment, and organized expert demonstrations.
For the continuous girder construction of the bridge, the construction sections corresponding to the 6 main piers were divided into 71 cantilever casting segments. Dual monitoring of bridge alignment and structural stress was implemented, with a total of 882 alignment monitoring points and 17 stress monitoring sections installed. Construction personnel carried out measurements before and after concrete pouring for each segment and before and after prestressing tensioning, collecting data such as girder elevation and structural stress, and adjusting construction control parameters based on monitoring results.
The closure construction was completed by pouring concrete during a suitable temperature period, with simultaneous implementation of rigid locking and temporary prestressing tendon construction to control the transformation of the girder force system. Ultimately, the relative vertical elevation difference between the two adjacent cantilever ends was 6 millimeters, and the axial deviation was 3 millimeters, achieving millimeter-level precision closure.
The Shenmu-Watang Railway mainly undertakes the railway outward transport task for coal production areas in northern Shaanxi such as the Shenfu Coalfield. According to the project route connection plan, after completion, the railway will connect with the Watang-Rizhao Railway, forming a coal railway transport corridor to Rizhao Port in Shandong.
