73% Completion Reached on IDR 19 Billion Kewek Bridge Reconstruction Project in Yogyakarta, Indonesia

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 26, the National Road Construction Department of the Special Region of Yogyakarta, Indonesia, announced the latest progress on the Kewek Bridge reconstruction project. As of October 25, the actual construction completion rate had reached 73.009%, exceeding the planned progress of 53.484% for the same period by 19.525 percentage points. The project contract is valued at IDR 19 billion, with Indonesian construction company PT Wasis Karya Nugraha serving as the contractor. Construction is scheduled for completion and preliminary handover on December 25, 2026.

Currently, the bridge bored pile foundations, abutments, main girder installation, and secant pile construction have all been completed. Workers are now constructing the bridge deck while building a stone masonry retaining wall along the riverbank on the west side of the bridge. Ersy Perdhana, Contract Manager of the Yogyakarta Special Region National Road Implementation Working Unit, confirmed on October 26 that the project continues to proceed according to the established construction schedule, with the completion date remaining December 25.

Kewek Bridge is located on Jalan Abu Bakar Ali in Yogyakarta, spanning the Code River and connecting relevant roads in the city center. The new bridge adopts a concrete beam structure with a total length of 30 meters and a total width of 16 meters, including approximately 11 meters for motor vehicle lanes and 2.5 meters for sidewalks on each side. The construction scope also includes renovation of bridge approach roads, construction of riverbank retaining walls, and surrounding road connection works. The contract period is 240 calendar days.

The project entered its contract construction period on April 30. On September 13, actual construction progress reached 42%, after which abutment structure construction and main girder hoisting were advanced. The original Kewek Bridge structure had long served the road traffic function of the city center. The reconstruction project replaces the old bridge with a new main structure and implements protection measures for relevant heritage elements in the historic district where the bridge is located.
