Chinese Company Shenchuang Superconducting Completes Angel Round Financing

(hereinafter referred to as "Shenchuang Superconducting"), a developer and manufacturer of second-generation high-temperature superconducting materials, completed its angel round financing. The investor was Shenzhen Yijun Technology Co., Ltd., and the financing amount has not yet been disclosed.

Founded in September 2022, Shenchuang Superconducting is a high-tech enterprise focused on the research, development, and preparation of second-generation high-temperature superconducting YBCO (yttrium barium copper oxide) tapes. The company's technical team is led by an academician and was the first globally to master double-sided YBCO thin-film tape preparation technology. It is the only enterprise in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area engaged in the industrialization of high-performance second-generation high-temperature superconducting YBCO tapes.
High-temperature superconducting tapes are regarded as a "bottleneck" core material for the commercialization of controlled nuclear fusion. In magnetic confinement fusion devices, high-temperature superconducting magnets are the core component with the highest cost proportion, and REBCO tapes, with their strong current-carrying capacity under high magnetic fields, have become a key material for compact magnetic confinement fusion devices.
In terms of material characteristics, traditional low-temperature superconducting materials need to operate at liquid helium temperature (-269°C), resulting in high cooling costs and dependence on scarce helium resources. High-temperature superconducting materials represented by REBCO have a critical temperature higher than liquid nitrogen temperature (-196°C), greatly reducing cooling costs while significantly improving performance in carrying current and resisting magnetic fields.
High-temperature superconducting tapes account for more than 30% of the value in fusion devices. According to industry estimates, the total investment in fusion projects domestically and internationally is nearly 100 billion yuan, and upstream high-temperature superconducting materials are currently in a state of severe supply shortage.
