Uzbekistan and the United States Sign Memorandum of Understanding on Radiation and Nuclear Safety Cooperation

en.Wedoany.com Reported - Uzbekistan and the United States have signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two sides in the field of radiation and nuclear safety.

The State Committee for Industrial, Radiation and Nuclear Safety of Uzbekistan disclosed this information in a statement it released.

According to relevant information, the memorandum was signed on the sidelines of the 70th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which the Uzbek delegation is currently attending.

The agreement was signed jointly by A. Rafigov, Chairman of the State Committee for Industrial, Radiation and Nuclear Safety of Uzbekistan, and Ho Nieh, Chairman of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

The memorandum establishes a framework for cooperation between the nuclear and radiation regulatory bodies of the two countries in multiple areas, specifically including radiation and nuclear safety, licensing and on-site inspections, and the development of regulatory systems.

In addition, the two sides will carry out in-depth cooperation on emergency preparedness and response, training of professionals, and the exchange of expert technical knowledge and experience.

The Uzbek committee stated: "This memorandum will expand the exchange of information and experience between the regulatory bodies of the two countries and will help ensure safety in the process of the peaceful use of nuclear energy."

The agreement is intended to strengthen institutional cooperation between Uzbekistan and the United States in nuclear and radiation regulation and to support the enhancement of regulatory and technical capabilities in this field.

As Uzbekistan continues to advance the development of its nuclear energy and radiation safety infrastructure, the two countries also plan to maintain regular exchanges of regulatory experience and relevant information.
