China's First Cross-Sea Regional Railway, the Ningbo-Xiangshan Line, Opens to Traffic, with a Total Length of 61.45 Kilometers

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 22, the Ningbo-Xiangshan regional (suburban) railway officially opened for operation. The line starts at Xiaoyangjiang Station in Yinzhou District, Ningbo, in the north, runs southward through Yunlong, Hengxi, Tangxi, and Xianxiang, crosses Xiangshan Port, enters Xiangshan County, passes through Xianxiang and Daxu, and terminates at Damuwan Station, with a total length of 61.45 kilometers and 10 stations. The total project investment is approximately 26.756 billion yuan, and it is China's first cross-sea regional (suburban) railway.

The Ningbo-Xiangshan Line uses 4-car regional Type A trains, with a maximum operating speed of 160 kilometers per hour. After the line opens, a direct rail transit corridor will be formed between Ningbo's central urban area and Xiangshan. During weekday morning and evening peak hours, express trains will also run between Xiaoyangjiang Station and Damuwan Station, stopping only at Dancheng Station along the way.

The Xiangshan Port Cross-Sea Bridge, the controlling project of the entire line, has a total length of 8.276 kilometers, with a main bridge length of 1,376 meters and a main span of 688 meters. It adopts a composite steel box girder cable-stayed bridge structure and crosses the sea in parallel with the existing Yongguan Expressway Xiangshan Port Highway Bridge. The bridge's full steel girder consists of 95 segments, among which the side-span steel-concrete composite section is 107.5 meters long and weighs 1,619 tons.

The Ningbo-Xiangshan Line project includes approximately 31.9 kilometers of elevated track and 28.6 kilometers of tunnels, including approximately 6.2 kilometers of cross-sea section, approximately 22.7 kilometers of mountain tunnels, and approximately 5.9 kilometers of underground tunnels, plus an approximately 1-kilometer U-shaped groove transition section. Among the 10 stations, there are 2 underground stations and 8 elevated stations, supported by the Yunlong Depot and the Southern New City Parking Lot.

The Xiangshan Port Cross-Sea Bridge entered main construction in February 2023, completed full-bridge closure in December 2025, and then moved into the bridge deck engineering, track laying, pipeline laying, and equipment installation stages. In June 2026, the bridge entered the offshore track laying construction stage, and in September it was put into operation along with the entire Ningbo-Xiangshan Line.
