Santos Port in Brazil Handled 125.9 Million Tonnes of Cargo in the First Eight Months
en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Santos Port Authority (APS) announced that from January to August 2026, the Port of Santos handled a cumulative cargo throughput of 125.9 million tonnes, a year-on-year increase of 3.1%. Of this, export cargo reached 93.1 million tonnes, up 2.9% year-on-year; import and unloaded cargo reached 32.8 million tonnes, up 3.6% year-on-year. During the same period, container throughput was approximately 4 million TEU, up 3.9% year-on-year, setting a record high for the same period in the port's history.

In the single month of August, the Port of Santos handled 16.4 million tonnes of cargo, down 0.5% year-on-year. Of this, loaded cargo was 12 million tonnes, down 0.7% year-on-year; unloaded cargo was 4.39 million tonnes, up 0.2% year-on-year. Unlike the slight decline in overall cargo throughput, container throughput in August reached 538,200 TEU, up 3.9% year-on-year, setting a new monthly container throughput record for the Port of Santos.
Bulk cargo operations continued to support cumulative throughput growth. In the first eight months, liquid bulk cargo throughput reached 13.4 million tonnes, up 9.3% year-on-year, a record high for the same period; solid bulk cargo throughput reached 64 million tonnes, up 2.7% year-on-year, also setting a record for the same period. Among solid bulk cargo, soybeans accounted for 49.5%, sugar for 19.9%, and soybean pellets for 11.9%.
Looking at the data changes from the first seven months to the first eight months, the Port of Santos' cumulative cargo throughput increased from 109.5 million tonnes to 125.9 million tonnes, with approximately 16.4 million tonnes added in August; cumulative container throughput increased from 3.47 million TEU to approximately 4 million TEU. Previously, in the single month of July, cargo throughput fell 3.5% year-on-year and container throughput fell 2.1% year-on-year; in August, the container business returned to growth and set a new monthly record.
The Santos Port Authority listed August's 538,200 TEU as the port's new monthly container record. Based on performance in the first eight months of this year, the three business segments of containers, liquid bulk, and solid bulk all reached historic highs for the same period, with total cargo throughput maintaining year-on-year growth.
