en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 24, CGI Federal announced the signing of an applied research and development agreement with the U.S. Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, to launch the "Quantum Pathfinder" project, which will study the application of Agentic AI and quantum computing in advanced warehouse management, reverse logistics, and inventory positioning. The project is hosted by CGI Federal's delivery center in Knoxville, Tennessee, and is currently in the applied research and proof-of-concept stage.

The project will focus on the defense supply chain under contested and highly uncertain environments, with emphasis on intelligent warehouse dynamic scheduling, asset disposition, reverse logistics, and inventory location optimization. CGI Federal is responsible for system integration and hybrid AI-quantum workload integration, the U.S. Defense Logistics Agency provides real-world mission scenarios, and the University of Tennessee is responsible for research support, talent development, and quantum technology validation.

"Quantum Pathfinder" is not simply about testing quantum algorithms; it plans to combine Agentic AI with quantum computing to address complex optimization problems in the supply chain. Under the current arrangement, the project will subsequently select specific DLA logistics scenarios for PoC validation and produce performance benchmarks and application assessments, with specific use cases to be further determined in the coming months.

The project is also being advanced in coordination with the Knoxville Quantum Accelerator and the Tennessee Quantum Initiative, with research infrastructure and talent training also incorporated into the project framework. CGI has previously established a partnership with D-Wave Quantum to promote quantum annealing systems and hybrid solvers for logistics, rail, and energy supply chains, and "Quantum Pathfinder" will further bring related capabilities into U.S. defense logistics scenarios.

Currently available public information has not yet disclosed the project contract amount, budget scale, number of quantum computing hardware units to be procured, or a formal deployment timeline. The confirmed substantive milestone is the signing of the applied research and development agreement by the three parties and the launch of the Quantum Pathfinder research program.
