MSC Group's Cruise Division Breaks Ground on Sandy Cay in the Bahamas, Plans to Open in 2028

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 29, the cruise business division of MSC Group announced that the official groundbreaking ceremony has been held for its Sandy Cay private island destination project in the Bahamas. On-site construction and site preparation work are already underway, and the project is planned to open to the public in 2028. Sandy Cay will be jointly used by the two cruise brands MSC Cruises and Explora Journeys.

Sandy Cay is adjacent to Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve. It was first announced in April 2026, and the project will be dedicated exclusively to guests of the two brands MSC Cruises and Explora Journeys. MSC positions it as a standalone private island destination, with plans to offer dining, leisure spaces, private rest areas, and related shore excursion facilities.

MSC is also simultaneously upgrading the existing facilities on Ocean Cay, including adding dining venues, building new beach areas for families and adult guests, expanding leisure spaces, and adding marine conservation-related experience programs. Once Sandy Cay is put into operation, it will together with Ocean Cay form MSC's two private island destinations in the Bahamas.
