en.Wedoany.com Reported - Epiroc (Epiroc) has secured a major equipment order for a South African platinum mine, and will supply a batch of low-profile underground equipment for platinum mining at the Siphumelele shaft of the Rustenburg operations of precious metals mining company Sibanye-Stillwater.

Epiroc wins major equipment order for South African platinum mine

The order includes low-profile loaders and utility vehicles, all models specifically designed for narrow-vein mining operations. Sibanye-Stillwater is advancing a mechanization project at the Siphumelele shaft, and this batch of equipment will be deployed in that project to improve mine safety and production efficiency.

Helena Hedblom, President and CEO of Epiroc, said that as Siphumelele begins using mechanized equipment, Epiroc is proud to support this process, and the relevant equipment will help Sibanye-Stillwater continue to pursue the highest possible levels of safety and production efficiency.

Richard Cox, Chief Operating Officer of Sibanye-Stillwater's Southern Africa operations, said that this investment in Siphumelele is an important example of the company's strategic priorities, namely extending mine life and unlocking more value from existing ore reserves. Epiroc's low-profile equipment fleet is well suited to the mining conditions at Siphumelele and will support the safe and efficient advancement of this strategically significant project.

The equipment ordered this time includes LHD 5.5 LP low-profile loaders, UV42 utility vehicles, and a variety of interchangeable UV42 cassettes. This low-profile underground equipment suite originates from Epiroc's 2023 acquisition of AARD Mining Equipment (AARD Mining Equipment), which expanded Epiroc's business in key support and service applications and further strengthened the group's position in underground mining.

Utility vehicles are used to support daily underground operations, maintenance, and logistics. Interchangeable cassettes are swap-in work platforms installed on utility vehicles to increase the utilization rate of UV42 vehicles and can meet various transport needs such as personnel, tools, and explosives. Delivery of the equipment will begin in the fourth quarter of 2026.
