Spain's TTI Algeciras Signs 40-Crane Maintenance Agreement with Kalmar
en.Wedoany.com Reported - Kalmar has signed a new Kalmar Care service agreement with Spain's TTI Algeciras to provide mechanical preventive and corrective maintenance for 40 core lifting equipment units at the container terminal. The contract covers 8 ship-to-shore cranes and 32 automated yard cranes, with services focused on mechanical system maintenance and fault repair.

TTI Algeciras is one of two container terminals at the Port of Algeciras and one of the earliest semi-automated container terminals to enter operation in Southern Europe. The existing terminal can serve ultra-large container vessels, with ship-to-shore cranes and automated yard cranes handling ship-to-shore loading and unloading and yard container stacking operations respectively. This contract covers its main automated handling equipment system.
In addition to the 40 cranes covered by this agreement, TTI Algeciras's existing equipment fleet also includes 23 Kalmar straddle carriers, and the terminal has previously used maintenance services provided by Kalmar. This new agreement further brings 8 ship-to-shore cranes and 32 automated yard cranes into Kalmar's maintenance scope, forming an equipment service portfolio covering the two main operational segments of ship-to-shore and yard operations.
TTI Algeciras is currently implementing a terminal expansion project, which plans to increase annual container handling capacity to 2.1 million TEU, with the goal of bringing new capacity online by 2028. The existing expansion plan includes adding 2 ship-to-shore cranes, 12 automated yard cranes, and 6 shuttle transport units, as well as upgrading the terminal operating system and supporting facilities. This expansion project has previously been documented on the Weidu website, but this Kalmar maintenance contract is an independent equipment operations and maintenance milestone.
After the expansion is completed, the number of automated yard cranes and ship-to-shore cranes at the terminal will further increase, and the availability and maintenance cycles of existing equipment will be incorporated into the terminal's production organization alongside the new equipment. The 40 units covered by this Kalmar service contract are all core handling assets of the existing terminal, covering vessel operations, yard stacking, and container transfer interface segments.
